It’s a lonely, frustrating and emotional time when your child enters custody or remand at a young offenders institute.
Here are 3 things you need to know first
1) Your child will have one phone call the day they arrive. Make sure you have your phone on you as there is no option to call them back. During their induction into the YOI, you may not hear from them for a few days or longer as they won’t have access to a phone until they are allocated onto a wing.
2) To start visiting and receiving phone calls from your child in prison, you’ll need to be on their ‘PIN’
3) If you are not being kept up to date or would like questions answered, get in touch with your child’s youth justice worker from the council or resettlement officer from the young offenders institute
