Our business started when a Mexican with a dream to re-shape travel practices met a Mauritian with a dream to impact positively his country. Romina and Gerald decided to quit

their mainstream jobs and start something meaningful of their own. And so they came back to Mauritius, where they joined their skills to build a new project together. Mauritius Conscious was created from the belief that, to aim for a long-lasting, unique destination, we ought to change our behaviors in the present; to become more conscious about their consequences.

Salt, basalt, and light going amber at the edges — an early morning shaped by the wild Indian Ocean.

The south coast of Mauritius Island — exposed, unmanicured, the kind of coastline that has no interest in being convenient. The filao trees on the ridge have been leaning into the wind their entire lives. The basalt shelf has been taking the swell for longer than that.

Just a 45-minute flight from Mauritius lies our dramatic sister island, La Réunion. While Mauritius is known for its lagoons, La Réunion is defined by its fire.

This is the Piton de la Fournaise—one of the world’s most active volcanoes, which recently woke up again to reshape the landscape.
