Drift silently through the channels of Kanana’s private concession.

Tucked along the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta, Kanana is a hidden jewel, a necklace of palm-dotted islands, ancient figs, ebony and knobthorn trees rising from crystal waters.

From the gentle glide of a mokoro, the Delta reveals her finest details: iridescent birds overhead, lilies beneath your fingertips, and wildlife moving quietly between the reeds.

This is the Okavango at its most intimate.

Happy Hippos 🌧️ 🦛

The rains have rolled in, and the hippos couldn’t be happier! Their watering holes and pools are filling up again, offering them the space and cool refuge they need to thrive. Did you know hippos spend up to 16 hours a day submerged in water? It keeps their massive bodies cool under the harsh African sun, and it’s essential for their delicate skin.

💡 Fun Facts About Hippos:
Hippos can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes underwater and often sleep submerged, using a reflex to surface and breathe without waking up.
Despite their bulky build, they’re surprisingly quick on land, capable of running up to 30 km/h in short bursts!

Their name comes from the Greek word hippos, meaning "river horse," but they’re actually more closely related to whales and dolphins.

This season’s rains are not just a lifeline for hippos but a vital part of maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem. Water is life, and seeing it return to the bush is a sight that never loses its magic.

Hwange National Park Adventure – November 2024 🐾

Last month, Liz and Chris had an unforgettable journey through Hwange National Park, and we had to wait share some of their recent sightings with you! From majestic elephants to wild dogs, they had some amazing highlights which include:
- Lion feeding on an elephant carcass that was stuck in the mud
- Wild dogs chase an impala through the Vlei and successfully making a kill behind some bushes - which was then stolen from some nearby lions
- Hyena's wallowing in a mud puddle
- Wildlife munching on the green shoots after the first rains
- Encounters with tiny lion cubs lounging in the shade
- Baby elephants lambasting themselves in thick mud
