Hoàng Mỹ Duyên Maenbudu is a unique local island of Maldives, offering hearts and minds stay there home away from A fully fledged Madharusa (school) was established in 1986.

Located in the Administrative Atoll of Dhaalu which is approximately 174 kms south west of the Capital city Male’, lays Maenbudu, an island roughly 1 km in length and 0.5 kms in width. The island consists of a population of around 1000 people, mostly depending on Tourism and the Fisheries Industry. The island, one of the many beautiful ones the Maldives is famous for, is surrounded by the crystal

clear waters of the Indian Ocean and is an idyllic Tourist destination offering uninterrupted rest and relaxation for those looking for an unforgettable holiday with memories which will last a lifetime. It is believed that human life began on the island somewhere around 300BC with arrivals from South India, Sri Lanka and Moroccan sailors which resulted in a mixed culture. The name Maenbudu derives from a statue named “Mamma Budu” erected by the people which with the passage of time subsequently became “Maenbudu”. Maenbudu islanders embraced Islam in 1154 with the advent of Moroccan sailors and “Mamma Budu” was demolished to make way for a Mosque which was constructed at the same location, which was re-constructed a few times in the past. Education in the islands which was mostly confined to religious education began as far back as 1013 and formal literary education commenced in 1940.
