SOMETIMES A SMALL CHANGE MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. ⚙️🔥

Today it was time to fine-tune the setup on our new Jupiter 12.

She’s powered by twin Mercury 115 hp outboards and was originally running 14P propellers.

With that setup:
25 knots @ 6,500 rpm
22 knots @ 5,500 rpm

Today the Mercury team changed her over to 17P propellers.

The result:
32 knots @ 5,600 rpm 🔥
22 knots @ just 3,500 rpm

That’s a huge difference in the way the boat performs — and especially interesting for the cruising speeds we use during our fishing trips.

Jupiter 12 is getting closer and closer to exactly the setup we wanted. 🎣🚤

WE ONLY CAME TO THE SANDBANK FOR A SWIM… 😄🏝️

We took Jupiter 12 out to a sandbank for a relaxing afternoon.

Then Adam spotted fish moving across the flats. 👀

Of course, a fly fishing guide doesn’t just ignore that. 😂🎣

The fly rod came out, Adam moved carefully into position — and a few moments later he was connected to this beautiful Yellowspotted Trevally.

Luckily, we had the camera ready for the fight. 🔥

Sometimes the best fishing is the fishing you never planned.

And after the fight, straight back into the crystal-clear water. 💙

HE SAW IT. HE CAST. IT ATE. 🔥🎣

This is what flats fly fishing is all about.

Spot the fish. Make the cast. Watch it react… and then everything changes in a second. 💥

Adam connected with this beautiful Yellowspotted Trevally, and from the first take to the landing, the whole fight was caught on camera.

No heavy boat tackle. No trolling. Just an angler, a fly rod and a fish spotted in shallow water.

10+ MINUTES. ONE GT. AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LEFT IN THE ARMS. 🔥🎣

Adam went out onto the flats to explore some new fishing spots.

Then this happened.

A GT took the fly — and what followed was a fight that lasted more than 10 minutes.

From the flats all the way towards the shoreline, the fish just kept going. Burning hands, tired arms, and more than one moment when it looked like this GT might win.

Near the surf, it almost did.

But Adam held on.

One red fly. One very hard-earned GT. And finally, one beautiful release back into the Indian Ocean. ❤️

This is fly fishing for GT.

Not every fish comes easily.
And that’s exactly why you remember the ones that make you work for it.

WHAT A FEW DAYS ON THE FLATS! 🔥🎣
Our Italian fly fishermen had some great fishing around Vaavu Atoll — and the variety was just as good as the action.
GTs, Bluefin Trevally, Yellowspotted Trevally, Emperor and several Triggerfish all found their way to the fly. 🎣
Different fish, different challenges and plenty of opportunities over several successful days on the flats.
Sight fishing in clear, shallow water is what makes this style of fishing so special:
spot the fish, make the cast… and hope everything comes together. 👀

A NEW JUPITER IS TAKING SHAPE… 🚤🔧

A little behind the scenes from our newest addition to the JSL fishing fleet.

Our Jupiter 5, a 23 ft boat, has spent at least 8 years working hard in charter service. After countless fishing days, it was time to think about its replacement.

And here it is:

Jupiter 12 – 27 ft Center Console, powered by twin Mercury 115 hp. 🔥

But why 27 ft?

Our fleet already includes Jupiter 8, a 38 ft fishing boat powered by 2 × 250 hp Yamaha, and Jupiter 10, our 32 ft boat powered by 2 × 175 hp Yamaha.

These larger boats are fantastic for groups and demanding fishing trips, but not every guest needs that much boat.

With the new 27 ft Jupiter 12 and 2 × 115 hp Mercury, we’re filling that gap – giving solo anglers, couples and small groups of up to around 3 anglers a proper fishing platform that’s more economical than taking one of the big boats.

Right now the Mercury technicians are installing the engines. Next comes the steering and hydraulics, complete electrical installation, GPS, fishfinder and all the other equipment needed before she is ready for fishing.

If everything goes according to plan, Jupiter 12 could touch the water for the first time tomorrow or the day after. 🌊

We’ll take you behind the scenes all the way to her first fishing trip.

Our guest from Italy headed out for a guided fly fishing session on the flats of Vaavu Atoll.

More Than Just GT
Every flat tells a different story.
No two days are ever the same.
Besides several impressive Giant Trevallies, the flats also rewarded our guests with a beautiful Bluefin Trevally and a stunning Yellowspotted Trevally on fly.
That's what makes saltwater fly fishing so addictive...
