Laamu atoll has a number of places for you to see. Being the last atoll to convert to Islam in the Maldives you must visit and see the Buddhist temple which is old and run down in one island and a very old mosque which has a number of stories for it just as it catches your eyes in another island. All this and more along with locals busily working on their farms and a fish-canning factory for you to visit and discover without having to get on a boat. Laamu atoll has a few islands connected to one another and it is a 7.5 km stretch where you can ride on with our welcoming staff, who will tell you stories and your first with to us will not be enough to finish them all.
When you are done listening to stories you can go discover what Laamu atoll has to offer in its sea. There are various dive spots that you can choose from and rumor has it there’s shipwreck which is believed to be there since the 2nd world war. Why not find out for your self?
Of course there are other islands in the atoll for you to travel on a boat if you so badly want to. You can book a trip and go see what the islanders are up to.
Night fishing is very famous in the atoll and there are fishing spots where you can catch fishes that are about 4 to 5kg. Ready to pull it up to the deck of the ‘Dhoni’ like a local?
Ready to leave? Try the famous Gulha Riha only cooked and available from Laamu atoll or else no one will believe that you visited this unique place.
