When Should You Book Maldives? The Complete Timing Guide.
One of the most practical questions we get β and one where good advice can save you a significant amount of money (or prevent a lot of disappointment).
PEAK SEASON: November to April
This is the dry season β sunshine, calm seas, perfect visibility for snorkeling and diving. Also the most expensive time to visit, and when the best villas book out the fastest. For Christmas/New Year and February (Valentine's period), you should ideally book 6-12 months ahead. For other peak-season dates, 3-5 months ahead is wise.
SHOULDER SEASON: May and October
Often overlooked, but genuinely excellent. The weather transitions are usually fine, the resorts are quieter, and you can find strong rates. A great time for experienced Maldives travelers who know what they want.
LOW SEASON: June to September
The wet season β which in practice means occasional afternoon rain showers, not constant downpours. The ocean stays beautiful. The prices drop 20-40%. Many resorts run their best promotions. Ideal for budget-conscious travelers, solo divers, and those who prefer a quieter experience.
SPECIAL DATES TO PLAN EARLY
- Christmas (Dec 24-31): Book 9-12 months ahead for top resorts
- New Year: Same as Christmas
- Valentine's/February: Book by September the year before
- Easter: Book 4-6 months ahead
THE GOLDEN RULE
The best overwater villas at the most sought-after resorts sell out at any time of year. If you have a specific resort or villa type in mind, don't wait.
