A day of listening, learning, and observation.
We began our visit in B. Hithaadhoo, meeting local community members and hearing their experiences, before heading to Olhugiri to better understand the island’s current condition.
Thank you to Mr. Shaafiu from the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for sharing insights into conservation work in Baa Atoll, to Mr. Azeez, President of B. Hithaadhoo Council, for facilitating community meetings, and to Mr. Hood (Flow Ventures Fulhadhoo) for capturing the story of the day so beautifully.
Olhugiri stands as a quiet reminder of why protecting habitats in the Maldives matters, once a major roosting site for frigate birds, now calling for greater care and responsibility.
