SPEEDBOAT 🚤 VS. SEAPLANE ✈️⠀
⠀
Here's the breakdown! Save this post to help you out.⠀
⠀
SPEEDBOAT 🚤⠀
⠀
Speedboats are 100% the slower of the two options, but when you can walk around the boats and enjoy the views of the other islands that you pass by, it doesn't seem that long a journey. ⠀

Speedboats are also operated by individual resorts and differ in size but that means that you get on your boat and start making your way to the beginning of your relaxing trip very very fast once you get off the plane.⠀
⠀
SEAPLANE ✈️⠀
⠀
They're definitely faster, and the views are to die for. But even for just 30 whole minutes, it can get really boring really fast, especially since you can't move around much. ⠀

Once you land at the Malé airport, your seaplane terminal is a short bus ride away. The issue is that since seaplanes are so small (12-15 people) and a lot of resorts don't operate their own, if your flight that lands in Malé gets delayed you might miss your seaplane transfer and then be bumped to the next available timing (which for us was about 2 hours)⠀
⠀
⠀
All in all, if I could do it over again, I'd take the boat to the resort to get there as fast as possible...⠀
⠀..and do the seaplane on the way back since the major issue of waiting for one that's available is negated. And the aerial views get even prettier when you know it's probably the last you'll be seeing of those beautiful waters for a while. ⠀

5 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE PICKING YOUR MALDIVES HOTEL⠀
⠀
⠀
The Maldives consists of multiple small islands. Each resort more likely than not occupies the entirety of one of the small islands. ⠀

You are most likely to land in capital city of Malé and then travel to your resort where you will spend the entirety of your vacation unless you are changing resorts. ⠀
⠀
So there are a few things you might want to consider before you pick your resort. ⠀
⠀
Distance from Malé: Depending on your resort, and its distance from Malé, you will be taking a seaplane, a speedboat, or a combination of the two. ⠀
⠀
Number of Restaurants & Bars: Given that you will be spending your entire stay on one island (in one resort), you should check out the restaurants and cuisines offered⠀
⠀
Type of Room: Maldives resorts are best known for their overwater villas. But trust us, the beach villas are beautiful and have a charm of their own. If we were to travel to the Maldives again, we would pick a beach villa.⠀
⠀
Watersports & Other Activities: If you aren't the type to spend your entire day laying on the beach or by the pool, you will want to know the array of daily activities and watersports that are offered⠀
⠀
The Water: Are you a clear blue water or corally water type of person? Note that the latter gives you better sights when you go snorkeling by yourself⠀

Sitting by our room window I could see into other hotel room windows. Sipping my early morning tetra pack of juice I would see the array of people drawing their curtains, stretching, rubbing their eyes and yawning. Everyone seemed to have moved their lighter furniture towards the window, for a view that was not within the four walls of their room, so it didn’t seem like we had been forced to stay inside our little cubes. Through the day I’d see a young man watching shows on his laptop or a woman reading a book or an elderly couple eating their meal or others just looking out at me, as I was at them. I’d catch a little glimpse into the lives of all of these people, all so different but all in the same situation. We all shared a very similar experience and could all understand each other and that’s what made the difference. When I looked at another person staring out of the window, I knew I wasn’t alone. That’s what they say right? Misery loves company?👭🏽⠀

No, I’m just kidding. It was a surreal situation, but by no means was it miserable for us. I just felt like a little tiny community looking at everyone in a similar situation. When we had a new flight land and more people come to stay in our hotel, I hope all our eyes looking at them were welcoming, and when people were done with their quarantine and were leaving, we celebrated a little on the inside, waiting for our turn to be walking down towards the reception, luggage in hand. Our hotel stay, even though not a typical hotel stay was so much more than we could have hoped for. The Novotel staff were nothing short of supportive, kind and extremely understanding- everyone appreciates all that you’ve been through and I’m supremely grateful for that💫⠀

Our 14 day hotel quarantine turned into a 7 day hotel and 7 day home quarantine yesterday. The state governments new rule allowed us to spend our last week in quarantine at home. But is it better or worse? It’s hard being so close to family and our regular home routine and not being able to meet them or hug them. But its definitely great being back to the familiar place, to feeling their energy all around☀️☀️⠀

Have you ever had anything crazy happen to you on vacation that you laugh about every time you think about it?⠀

When I was 17, I went to Bali with my parents and my brother, who would have been 13 at the time. One of the evenings, we went to Uluwatu temple to watch the kecak and fire dance. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bali, but so interesting to watch, especially since the performance takes place with the sunset in the background.⠀

Now, if you haven’t been to Uluwatu Temple, you should know that it is inhabited by monkeys. Lots and lots and lots of monkeys 🐵 ⠀

It takes you by surprise in the beginning and you’re awfully weary of their undeniable presence. But the longer you spend time there, the more they, and their shenanigans fade into the background.⠀

Now, my dad being the avid photographer he is, and wanting to capture every moment of our holidays (thank you for all the priceless photographs) made my mum, my brother and I pose for about a billion pictures. With the hullabaloo all around, by the end of it, suffice it to say, my brother and I were annoyed and taking it out on each other, in a typical sibling manner.⠀

Just as we were about to take our last pictures and head down to watch the kecak performance my brother started yelling/complaining at me. He kept gesturing at his face but with zero context or understanding of the thoughts in his head, none of the 3 of us could makes sense of his complaints for a while. Eventually we realised he was asking me to return the spectacles I had stolen-off his face-while we were getting our pictures clicked.⠀

I just stood there, laughing, because I had genuinely not stolen them. The case of the missing spectacles was as funny as it was perplexing. The more time that went by that we couldn’t find the glasses, the funnier it got. We totally believed that he had ‘lost’ his glasses so he could get a new pair.⠀

Until... we saw a monkey in the trees with a pair of glasses that looked suspiciously like my brothers 🤨 can you even imagine?⠀

While we were posing for our picture, a monkey literally grabbed his spectacles off his face.⠀

Off.⠀

And he thought it was

Opened a portal to 2015 Cappadocia in my living room today. Probably going to pop through for a bit. Hopefully portal travel transforms my work-from-home attire into something a little more... uh... presentable
⠀⠀
I travelled to Cappadocia with my parents and brother in 2015. We landed in Istanbul and just fell in love with the city. The sky just shone a deep yellow, the people resonated warmth, the city was abuzz with happiness and laughter with smells so delicious around every corner that made my mouth water ALL THE TIME. Ask me which country I’ve travelled to that I love the most, and I’d say Turkey, and thats 90% because of how perfect Istanbul was
⠀⠀
But this story isn’t about Istanbul. It’s about where we went next. Cappadocia!! The then still elusive destination that was known best for its sunrise hot air balloon sights and cool cave hotels
⠀⠀
We spent our day shopping, eating and just walking around. We got back to our cave hotel really tired and really late. We were ready to pass out of exhaustion when a terrible feeling came over my mum
⠀⠀
One thing you should know about the cave hotels is that they have very very low ceilings. And small windows that you can’t open at night because of the insects. My 6 foot tall brother couldn’t stand up straight in the rooms 🤷🏽‍♀️⠀
⠀⠀
Now, my terribly claustrophobic mother wasn’t able to sit in the room for more than 5 minutes, let alone fall asleep there. I doubt she slept a wink that night, but she was fresh as a daisy the super early the next morning
⠀⠀
We got picked up at our hotel for our hot air balloon ride. As we were driven to our spot, we couldn’t peel our eyes off the beauty outside our windows. In the stillness of the morning you see balloons of every colour on the colour wheel slowly lifting into the sky. It’s a sight that makes waking up at an ungodly hour worth it— even for a non-morning person
⠀⠀
Once we were done, we got back to our hotel and left for the airport. Two days earlier than we had planned. Because my mum felt so claustrophobic she couldn’t sleep there another night! 😮
⠀⠀
Was that entire ordeal worth those moments in the sky? I’d say, most definitely. But I think you’d have to ask my mum

This trip was my first time in Seattle and I would definitely say it is a city worth visiting in America. 🚤 Save this post if you want recs for a future trip 👇🏽⠀

STAY:⠀

I would highly recommend staying near Pike Place Market because of the numerous things to do around there. We are hardcore loyalists so we stayed at⠀

✨ which falls within Bonvoy group. The hotel is so well placed between the market and the other things to do around there which is such a boon after a whole day of walking around. They also have a Starbucks within their property, open till 10pm most days. That’s perfect for a late snack or an early breakfast on the go.⠀

DO:⠀

✨ Pike Place Market: There is so much to see here. People selling jams, flowers, meat, teas... you name it. It is surrounded by great restaurants and cafes.⠀

✨ : beautiful exhibit of glasswork by Dale Chihuly showcasing the use of glass as a medium of art. Even though the most popular exhibit is the Glasshouse, walk through the entire museum to see some stunning artwork in the other galleries⠀

✨ Miners Landing: restaurants and rides including the Seattle Great Wheel⠀

✨ Great Gum Wall: such a fun and intriguing spot. Great for a cute photo op. ⠀

✨ : 100% worth a visit. This workspace for amazon employees has a free public exhibit that’s really cool and informative. Look out for my detailed post about The Spheres coming soon.⠀

✨ The original Starbucks: visit the 1971 location ⠀

✨ : You can buy or even make your own glass creation. Such a new and different experience, it’s a must-do on my list to Seattle. was so patient with us and gave us a perfect experience. Book a class in advance because they run out of spots really quick. ⠀

✨ Museum of Pop Culture⠀

✨ : this woman owned and run business is a real Charlie and the chocolate factory kinda experience with a tour, tasting and chocolate wall. This was something we really really wanted to do but unfortunately couldn’t. Would it be entirely ridiculous of me to book a ticket to Seattle just for this experience?⠀

*lasting relationships*⠀

In order to have lasting relationships, you have to let the person change and grow. Give them space. My friend told me about their grandfather who was married for 60-years before his wife passed away. He said that through the years his wife changed so much that it felt like he had been with 8 different women. The secret to his lasting relationship was through all those changes, he never suffocated her with his own ideas of who he expected for her to be. Instead, he loved her fully, in every new woman she became.
