I've been wanting to do this for a while and finally got to it!
I'm starting this series of "Introducing Hulhumale", for the outside world to get a glimpse of the island we're based out of. I'll be getting around Hulhumale', featuring interesting things to do, places to eat and hopefully, you'll get a good idea of what to expect before you get here.
Hulhumale is a local island, connected by a causeway, 10-15mins drive (depending on how enthusiastic your driver is!) from Maldives' Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. Being close to the airport, Hulhumale boasts more than 40 local guesthouses and counting. These inexpensive guesthouses caters a lot of late night arrival guests before transit to their resorts the next day.
This provides a great opportunity for travellers who might want to visit the Maldives on a budget.
Hulhumale, while fast warming up in becoming a tourist destination in its own right, is still a local island where lot of Maldivians live, work, hang out and have our way of life. Being a conservative Islamic society, bikinis and alcohol are prohibited. Lots of tourists were a bit disappointed when they found this out after arrival here.
Hence, my goal is to take an accurate portrayal of our lovely island, not hyper-photoshop it, while trying to bring out the best Hulhumale has to offer.
We start off this series with our exciting Water Sports Club, situation at the beginning of the one-way Hulhumale Beach Road. There are quite a few water sports provider around, Shambe and Thobe were the first guys who were warm and friendly to me, a foreigner, without giving me the feeling like they were going to rip me off :)
So here goes...keep a look out for more! , , ,
