Day 3 Maldives Castaway Update

Survival expert checked in with Chris today to talk about how things are progressing and to refocus on what matters most moving forward.

Priorities for the next phase are clear: strengthen the essentials, manage resources wisely, and keep momentum going. Steady progress, smart decisions, and keeping a cool head are the name of the game as we head into the next stretch.

Day 1 on the Castaway Island — absolutely smashed it.

Camp location chosen (prime real estate), fire made like a pro, and survival mode officially activated.

🔥 He’s already eaten a heroic amount of coconuts, so hydration and island morale are high.

The location? Unreal. Tranquil, wild, and properly remote — the kind of place where time slows down and every small win feels huge.

An amazing first day with so much achieved, and this is only the beginning of the journey.

A shelter is non-negotiable on an island!

You need to find a place for a shelter - or the island decides for you.

Location is critical. Natural cover. Awareness of wind, rain, and rising tides. One bad decision here can cost you comfort… or safety.

Armed with only basic tools, the build begins using what the island provides.

Poles are cut, frames shaped, and palm leaves stripped, sorted, and plaited by hand. It’s a treacherous, painstaking process that takes hours. Fingers ache. Blisters. Focus slips. Progress is slow but deliberate.

Layering is everything. Each leaf must overlap just right to shed rain, block wind, and insulate the shelter. Rushed work here means a wet, miserable night later.

Equally vital: keep everything off the ground. Bags, kit, and supplies are raised to avoid moisture, insects, and damage. Survival isn’t just about what you build - it’s about what you protect.

And the result?
An amazing structure. A solid, functional shelter. An outstanding first attempt — and one Chris should be genuinely proud of. Built with patience, skill, and determination.

Meet Chris, our survivor - on the right

For over two decades, my world revolved around service as an Officer in the British Army, leadership, and responsibility — I thought I’d faced it all — until I asked myself: Could I survive on an uninhabited island?

No luxury. No tents. No food. Just bushcraft skills, mindset, and whatever resilience I could bring with me….

So….this isn’t a holiday. This isn’t bravado. It’s curiosity. It’s testing limits. It’s reconnecting with the part of me that thrives on challenge, uncertainty, and learning. Discovering what I’m truly capable of. It’s Castaway Maldives.

The island doesn’t care about comfort. Neither do I.

To push myself safely, I went with Kev Newton, one of the world’s most respected survival experts. He’s trained royalty, elite forces, and world-class adventurers — including Prince William & Prince Harry, Richard Branson, Guy Martin, and Carol Vorderman to name a few. I’m about to step into a dream — a deserted island adventure in the Maldives, staying on our very own uninhabited castaway island. And the best part? There might even be a playful dolphin es**rt! 🐬💙

I can already imagine it: crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and the gentle sway of palm trees overhead. Whilst you’re there, you’ll learn new bushcraft skills, explore hidden corners of the island, and fully immerse yourself in nature.

Then, as if by magic, curious dolphins will circle and leap alongside our boat — a surreal reminder of how wild and beautiful our world is.
