Category 4, 150 mph, pressure 932 mb. About 180 miles south-southeast of Cabo Corrientes, drifting north at 3 mph. NHC expects it near or just inland of the coast Sunday, still a major hurricane on approach.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱. Puerto Vallarta International announced a temporary closure. We told you this morning that GAP expected to stay open — that was accurate then and it has since changed. If you have a flight, contact your airline, not the airport.
𝗝𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 — the highest level — for the Costa Norte, Costa Sur and Sierra Occidental. Non-essential activity across Jalisco, Nayarit, Colima and Michoacán was suspended from 4:00 p.m. About 2,895 Army, Air Force and National Guard personnel are deployed under Plan DN-III-E across the three states.

Tropical storm conditions begin tonight. Hurricane conditions in the southern warning area early Sunday. Waves could reach 8 meters. Rain totals of 10 to 20 inches, isolated to 30, across Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco — rivers and arroyos are the thing to watch, not just wind.
𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀
Stay inside. Don't go to the beach or the Malecón to look — 8-meter waves are not a photo opportunity.
Don't cross a river, stream or flooded street, on foot or in a vehicle.
If the wind suddenly goes completely calm, that's the center passing. Stay in. It comes back from the opposite direction, often harder.
Conserve your phone battery. You don't need to refresh the track every ten minutes.
𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗲𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲
Manzanillo and the southern Jalisco coast are closest and getting it first. Nayarit up to El Roblito and Las Islas Marías are in the warning. Michoacán has shelters open. Mazatlán and southern Sinaloa are on the back end of the track. No part of Baja is in any Simon alert.

Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay Nay coordinates hurricane preparations as Simon approaches

Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay are coordinating with federal and state agencies as Hurricane Simon could strengthen to a Category 3 or 4 storm in the coming

About 6,500 civilian and military personnel have been deployed across Jalisco Y Nayarit Federal authorities have activated the DN-III-E and Navy emergency response plans.

The first five of 16 planned temporary shelters in Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay are ready to receive residents and their pets, with basic supplies and food available.

Authorities urged residents to take the storm seriously and follow official updates as Simon’s track and conditions could change.

Puerto Vallarta y Bahia de Banderas mantienen coordinación con autoridades federales y estatales ante la posibilidad de que el huracán Simon se intensifique a categoría 3 o 4 en las próximas horas.

Unos 6,500 elementos civiles y militares han sido desplegados en Jalisco y Nayarit También se activaron los planes de emergencia DN-III-E y Marina.

HURRICANE WARNING ISSUED FOR PUERTO VALLARTA REGION AS SIMON STRENGTHENS
Hurricane Simon strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Thursday evening, and forecasters warn it could rapidly intensify into a dangerous Category 4 hurricane before approaching Mexico’s Pacific coast on Saturday. Life-threatening wind and storm surge impacts are expected along a portion of the west-central coast of Mexico, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect from Punta San Telmo to Punta Mita. The storm’s exact track and its potential impact on Puerto Vallarta remain uncertain. Still, preparations to protect life and property should be completed by late Friday. Residents and visitors should monitor updates from Protección Civil y Bomberos Puerto Vallarta and download Jalisco Alerta, the official, free early-warning app from the Gobierno de Jalisco and Protección Civil Jalisco.
