Flight delays and cancellations are stressful enough without trying to figure out your options on the fly.

A little preparation BEFORE your trip can make a huge difference if things don’t go according to plan.

Here are 6 things I recommend doing before your next flight. The 6th one is one I didn’t do and regret it.

Save this one for your next trip.

10 days. 4 states. 7 hotels. And a whole lot of miles.

When we started planning this trip, there were so many places we wanted to see and things we wanted to squeeze in. Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Jackson, Utah, Moab, Colorado…and somehow we actually did it!

But looking back, I don’t think I’ll remember this trip by how many places we checked off.

I’ll remember watching bison swim across a lake in Yellowstone. Wading into cold mountain water. Taking pictures with Vivi with the Tetons behind us. Driving through scenery that made us say “WOW” over and over again. Dinosaur tracks, petroglyphs, hot springs, rafting, ridiculously hot Utah days, lots of time in the car, and yes…even planning a hotel stop around being close to a Swig. 😂

There were early mornings, constantly repacking suitcases, long drives, changing plans on the fly and plenty of moments when we were completely exhausted.

And I’d do it all again.

Vivi is 13 now, and I’m very aware that these years of the three of us packing up and heading somewhere together aren’t unlimited. That probably made me take this trip in a little differently.

We covered a lot of ground over the last 10 days, but the part I’ll remember most is simply getting to experience all of it together.

And this photo of the three of us with the Tetons behind us? I think it might be one of my favorites from the entire trip. 💕

If you’re planing a trip out West is on your bucket list, I’d be honored to help you plan it ☺️

Day 8 - Utah——> Colorado

To beat the heat, we started our day early and headed into Arches National Park, where we took on the highlights before headed to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. We spent the day soaking in natural hot springs, which was exactly what we needed after the last 8 days. We also all braved our first cold plunge.

We ended the day at the historic Hotel Colorado, where we spent the evening learning about its history… and, of course, all of the ghost stories!

Today we are headed to Denver for a relaxing day at the hotel before heading home on Saturday.

As much as I’m ready to head home, I also don’t want this vacation to end 🥹

Moab - Day 5 (I think?)

Moab welcomed us with 105° temperatures, so we started the afternoon the best way possible… floating in the hotel pool with those incredible red rock views.

After an early dinner, we headed out to drive Potash Road, a famous road full of breathtaking scenery and history. We made a quick hike to see dinosaur tracks that are estimated to be around 190 million years old. Seeing something that old right beneath your feet is pretty incredible. (Check out the van in one of the photos for perspective on just how massive those rock walls are!)

Not far down the road, we stopped to see ancient petroglyphs carved into the canyon walls, another reminder of just how much history this landscape holds.

Today, we are whitewater rafting down the Colorado River and will explore Arches National Park in the evening!

Core Vacation Memory ☺️

Our drive from Jackson, Wyoming, to Moab, Utah, was a long one, so we planned an overnight stop in Provo to break it up. The second Vivi heard we were staying in Utah, she had one request: Swig!

The funny part? Our original hotel wasn’t anywhere near one. So… naturally, we changed our plans. 😂

Vivi and I ordered the Lucky Ducky, while Alex went with the Dirty Little Secret. I definitely get the hype and was pleasantly surprised by the price tag!

We will definitely be stopping by there for a road-trip treat on our way to Moab!

Have you tried Swig? What’s your go-to drink?

Day 3 & 4- Grand Teton National Park 🏔️

Over the last two days, we spent our time exploring Jenny Lake, hiking to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point, wandering through Moose Ponds, visiting the T.A. Moulton Barn, riding the tram in Teton Village, and walking around downtown Jackson Hole.

Hands down, my favorite memory was our impromptu drive back into the park during sunset. There are no words or photos that could capture the beauty we witnessed as the sun set over the Tetons.

I don’t think I could pick a favorite park because they’re so different. Yellowstone amazed me with its wildlife and geothermal features, while Grand Teton was all about the views, the lakes, and the peaceful feeling of just being there.

Today, we are headed to Utah, with an overnight in Provo, Utah before we make our way to Moab, Utah. Wait until you see why we made this detour. The things we do for our kids 🙃

Day 2 & 3 - Yellowstone National Park

We entered through the iconic Roosevelt Arch and spent the next two days exploring some of the park’s most incredible sights:
• Mammoth Hot Springs
• Norris Geyser Basin
• Porcelain Basin
• Grand Prismatic Spring
• Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
• Hayden Valley
• Old Faithful

Every stop felt completely different from the last. One minute we were walking through steaming geothermal landscapes that looked like another planet, and the next we were standing at the edge of colorful canyons or watching wildlife roam the valleys.

One thing that made our trip even better? We downloaded the GuideAlong app before arriving, and it led us to a few hidden gems and off-the-path stops we probably would have driven right past otherwise. Those unexpected moments ended up being some of our favorites.

But if I had to narrow it down, these were my top three experiences:

1. Watching a herd of bison cross both the lake and the road. It was one of those “you can’t believe you’re seeing this in real life” moments.
2. Wading into the river. The water was freezing, refreshing, and one of those simple moments that instantly becomes a core vacation memory.
3. Doing an impromptu photo shoot with Vivi by the lake. Those quiet moments together are the ones I’ll treasure long after this trip is over.

Yellowstone completely exceeded our expectations, and I can already see why so many people come back again and again.

If you’ve been to Yellowstone, what was the one experience you still talk about today?
