What an incredible country we live in.
Mexico is like a book with endless pages—one that you could read for a lifetime and still never reach the end. This time, we opened it to a chapter called Valle de Guadalupe.
A vast valley stretched between the hills of Baja California, just two hours from the San Diego/Tijuana border, Valle evokes a mosaic of beautiful associations: the vineyards of Provence, rustic italian trattorias, the landscapes of Napa, the artistry of Manhattan, and the scenic drive of the Pacific Coast Highway.
Valle de Guadalupe is a land of young, beautiful, talented, and hardworking people.
Here, vines are cultivated with a passion reminiscent of "A Good Year"—a film where the bond with the vineyard is deeply personal, even familial. In this valley, it’s not uncommon for three generations of one family to live together with the shared purpose of making their own wine. It’s a place where “grape farmers” are childhood friends with Michelin-starred chefs.
This land is also famed for its extraordinary gastronomy. Seafood and meats here carry a distinct flavor, different from anywhere else in Mexico. And it's this, along with world-class chefs, that has earned Valle its place on the global culinary map, with many restaurants proudly bearing Michelin stars.
Valle de Guadalupe is home to over 120 private wineries—ranging from hidden boutique cellars beneath family homes to renowned powerhouses like Monte Xanic.
Its beauty is breathtaking: endless vineyards and mountains that rise like guardians of the valley, keeping it sacred and apart from the rest of the world.
More and more wineries in Valle are embracing organic and natural practices, including the elimination of phosphates and other chemical additives. A few are especially known for their sustainable ethos:
Vena Cava Vinícola —a winery committed to sustainability, using recycled materials and organic methods.
Santos Brujos—offering certified organic wines free from additives, including phosphates and sulfites.
Decantos Vinícola is a unique winery in Valle de Guadalupe that produces its wines through a 100% gravity-flow process, preserving the purity and character of each grape without the use of mechanical pumps.
The iconic Monte Xanic winery truly captures the imagination—more on its legacy, its wines, and the valley’s finest hotel in our next chapter.
