There were beautiful resorts in Fiji… and then there was Namale Resort & Spa.

Take my money and give me the lay down seat.

But let’s take the opportunity to talk about the Bula Bid system on Round trip business on my fight from DFW to NAN was between 9 and 10k depending on when I looked. Of course you can pay that rack rate (or you could use credit card points/miles accrued) but you could also buy an economy seat and test your luck with a Bula Bid.

What is it? A chance to “bid” on what you’re willing and comfortable spending on a business class seat. The week prior to travel some of the unsold seats in business will be up for auction per se. You’ll see a range of lowest to highest bid suggestions as well as the actual just flat out new purchase price for the ticket (tip- that price is lower than what you would have spent weeks ago buying the flight).

The goal is to look at the seat availability and do your best at trying to find the sweet spot of what amount would be acceptable. You bid and provide your credit card information. If your bid is approved they charge your card and upgrade you. If it’s too low you maintain your seat in coach.

Traveling to Fiji isn’t cheap when you fly business, but 13.5 hours there and 12.5 back if it’s in the budget it’s worth the splurge.
