✈️ Travel Tip Tuesday: Kara's Airport Etiquette
For a little mini series of Travel Tip Tuesday, I'm sharing my unfiltered version of Kara's Airport Etiquette. Just real-life tips to help make airport travel smoother for everyone.
As a frequent traveler, someone married to a guy who doesn't exactly love airports or crowds 😂, and now working part-time at our local airport, I've had a front-row seat to what works... and what doesn't.
👶🏻 Week 1: Traveling with Kids
1) Pick your damn seats if you care where you sit.
If sitting together matters, don't leave it up to the airline to figure out for you. Purchase a fare that allows you to choose seats. It saves everyone the last-minute game of musical chairs.
2) If there was ever a time to parent... it's at the airport.
Travel days are long. Pack snacks, bring games, download movies, and keep little minds busy.
The other day I watched a mom play Simon Says with her kids during a long layover. I wanted to give her a high-five! On the flip side... I also watched two kids screaming while both parents were glued to their phones.
Simon Says... pay attention to your kids. 😉
3) Give yourself extra time.
Everything takes longer when you're traveling with kids. Give yourself extra time for check-in, TSA, bathroom breaks, snacks, and getting to your gate.
💺 Insider tip: If you're using a TSA-approved car seat and traveling with another adult, have one parent board first to install the seat while the other stays with your child. Those few extra minutes to get the wiggles out can make all the difference.
Flying solo? Don't be afraid to ask for help. I used to think I had parenting figured out... until I flew alone with a one-year-old. 😂
