The magical and colorful Isla Mujeres is a place you can´t miss during your travels to Cancun and the Mayan Riviera with Yacht Central. About 13 kilometers from the coast of Cancun and only accessible by ferry, the name Isla Mujeres literally means the island of women. It has an extension of 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) long and 650 metres (2,130 ft) wide and was conquered by the Spain in the 16th century. Originally the island was sacred to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of childbirth and medicine and was part of Ekab, one of the four provinces of the Mayan territory in the actual state of Quintana Roo.
