Let's be honest — is expensive. And I don't think people talk about it enough.
It's not just the flight and the hotel. It's the upgraded seats closer to the front of the plane. It's paying for caregivers to travel with you. It's renting an accessible vehicle — which, by the way, can cost three times as much as a standard rental. Every single one of these things adds up, and when you're trying to financially plan for an accessible trip, it can feel really overwhelming.
We've learned over time that we have to get strategic about it. One of the ways we've been able to make accessible travel feel a little more doable is by using credit card points. Jordan and I both have and credit cards, and we share a card between us. We stack points wherever we can — on flights, on hotels, on everyday spending — and then we put them to work when it's time to book a trip. It doesn't cover everything, but it covers enough to make a real difference.
We're not going to pretend the system is fair. Accessible travel costs more, and it shouldn't. But in the meantime, we're figuring it out one trip at a time and sharing what works along the way. Because if we can make it a little easier for someone else in this community, that's worth it. 💛
