September is a great time to visit Isla Mujeres, prices for flights start to drop and there are many things to do.

2 things to remember

Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico Celebrations September 16
Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music on September 16. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day.

Turtle Release Season
During the summer months sea turtles come to Isla late at night to lay their eggs in the soft sand beaches. Trained volunteers from the Tortugranja, (Turtle Farm), a government sponsored organization for the protection of endangered sea turtles, collect the eggs in the early mornings and transfer them to the Turtle Farm for a 60-day incubation period. Once hatched, the baby turtles are put in ponds until released.

Beginning in late August through early October, the baby turtles are released into the sea. Two of the most frequently used locations are Playa la Media Luna in Centro and Playa Guadalupana towards the south end. The release is held at sunset and is wonderful experience.

Island Time Music Festival 2019!

Year after year, multiple renowned musicians join together to entertain people on Isla Mujeres and provide support for The Little Yellow School House: http://littleyellowschoolhouse.org/

The Island Time Music Festival and Fishing Tournament have become a perfect combination of good times and goodwill. For nearly a decade, Island Time Music Festival and Fishing Tournament have given music lovers and fishing enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with talented writers and performers under the welcoming skies of Mexico’s best kept secret—the island community of Isla Mujeres.

Attendees enjoy world class performances daily in intimate venues across the island. Fishermen take to the neighboring waters in pursuit of migrating sailfish and top honors in an organized fishing tournament.

Best of all, proceeds from the week’s activities and the accompanying online auction benefit the children of Isla Mujeres; one of those being the operations of the island’s Little Yellow Schoolhouse and its service to local, special needs children.

The Little Yellow School House began when it came to realization that there was a desperate need for a school for special needs children in Isla Mujeres.
