There's an instrumental on this album called "Ruby Mountain Spring," and if you asked me on the right day, I'd tell you it's my favorite song on this album.
It came out of a motorcycle trip through Nevada, hunting hot springs. We crossed over the Ruby Mountains and dropped down into a little valley, and there it was — a deep, quiet spring waiting for us. We peeled out of all our moto gear and sank in for a long soak. No hurry to be anywhere. Just the water, the mountains, and the kind of stillness you don't find often.
I didn't set out to write a song about it. But something about that afternoon stayed with me, and when I picked up the mandolin, this is what came out. No words needed. Sometimes the feeling says it better on its own.
