Summer always brings some of our favorite reunions. We were so happy to welcome this family back for another dive a few days ago. They've shared some unforgettable dives with us over the years, and this time the ocean rewarded us with calm seas and beautiful, warm blue water.

Nature never disappoints! ✨ These amazing mobula rays were putting on a spectacular show just off the beach at Isla Coronado. Early July is always a fantastic time to spot them, and this year the warmer waters have brought them in even earlier.

How high can a dolphin jump? Apparently, this high.

Many of you have asked about what's been going on lately here in Loreto, and we wanted to give you an update.

In mid-April, a federal decree threatened to change Loreto forever by declaring it a “Deep-Sea Port” to make way for massive international ships. The news hit right at the core of who we are: a family business that employs local guides, captains, shops, mechanics, and many others whose livelihoods depend on this place. Our goal has always been to share this magical destination with the thousands of visitors who come here each year.

We knew what these large vessels would mean for Loreto. The deafening noise from their engines disrupts blue whales, blocks their communication, and increases the risk of deadly collisions. Massive anchoring and polluted wastewater would also damage the fragile reefs and seagrass beds, forever changing the lives of the dolphins, sea turtles, and sea lions that call the National Park home.

Economically, the project didn't feel right for the town either. At this time, the tourism we operate supports local hotels, restaurants, guides, shops, mechanics, and vendors throughout the community. Cruise tourism tends to keep much more of that spending onboard, while many excursions are operated by outside companies bringing in their own staff. For many locals, it felt like Loreto would carry the impact without truly sharing in the benefits.

Our community showed exactly what it's made of. People came together under the slogans “Loreto no es puerto de altura, es santuario de ballenas” and “Loreto no se vende, se defiende,” collecting signatures and taking to the streets in a historic movement. After weeks of resistance, on May 23rd the government officially revoked the decree.

Yes, we realize Loreto is growing and changes will come. We know we may not like a lot of them, and that's part of life. However, this proposal was far worse than any of us expected, and we are all breathing a huge sigh of relief that our Pueblo Mágico is safe...

And thanks to that unity, when you sail with us, you'll still find a clean sea, a protected sanctuary, and a community that knows how to protect what it loves.

Soooo many mobulas today! May-June is the best time to see them here in Loreto.
