Announcing Big Changes at Fifty Plus Nomad
For over three years, I have tried to make this website one of the top sources of information about living and traveling worldwide over 50 on the internet. While I feel proud of my efforts, I have been disappointed by the results. I think the high volume of travel blogs makes it difficult to attract an audience for travel-advice-related content.
I also found it hard to write high-quality, consumer-oriented blogs that also attract Google’s algorithms and are still interesting and fun to read. I found that I spent about half of my time writing articles and the other half simply trying to find the right Google keywords and writing and rewriting short descriptions of the article in many places in the hope (usually in vain) that they might be found by Google’s search engines.
In addition, COVID complicated my efforts. For the first couple of years, the travel and living abroad situation changed daily, but I consciously decided not to post most of the changes because I knew they wouldn’t last long. Yet, unfortunately, for at least a year of the pandemic, there wasn’t much of an audience for non-COVID posts.
Thankfully, while I haven’t succeeded in my original goal, I have discovered a new and potentially more viable direction. Many people on the website are interested in my content about living and traveling in Mexico. In addition, I coincidentally rediscovered my love for teaching during the past two years by giving English classes to Juan Carlos.
Therefore, I have reformatted Fifty Plus Nomad to offer 1-on-1 workshops and courses on English, Spanish, living and traveling in Mexico, and long-term, round-the-world travel. (Fifty Plus Nomad’s Intensive Spanish course and short-term workshops are designed for students over 50 who have not succeeded in other classes. Our workshop on living and traveling in Mexico focuses on perspective expats, snowbirds, and long-term travelers from the US and Canada (not on people who already live in Mexico).
I have also decided to make the following changes to the blog:
I will concentrate on writing new content about living and traveling in Mexico. (An added benefit: since the blogs will be more specific Google’s search engines will be find them quicker).
I will only add long-term, round-the-world travel posts if I see more interest in this content or have some particular personal interest in posting a particular article (These posts will no longer be updated regularly either).
I am maintaining my Facebook group as-is: Long Term Traveling and Living Abroad Over 50
I am collaborating with Mario Leduc and Richard Osbourne to promote the website, develop new travel and Mexico-oriented content, and build strategic marketing partnerships.
I am excited about having a more focused and audience-oriented website and working in partnership with Richard and Mario.
Any help that you may provide is highly appreciated.
