There are two ways to apply for Family Unity in Mexico:
1. 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒊𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑰𝑵𝑴)
2. 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆

If you are visiting as a tourist, you can apply to change your immigration status. If you are undocumented in Mexico, you can apply for regularization at the National Institute of Migration (INM) with a birth certificate or marriage certificate from a Mexican citizen or resident in Mexico. If you are married to a Mexican citizen or resident, you will receive a Temporary Residency, regardless of whether they are a permanent resident. If you have a Mexican child or a child who is a permanent resident, you can apply directly for a Permanent Residency.
These documents must be duly apostilled and/or translated into Spanish by a certified translator if your child was born or you were married outside of Mexico.

Applying through a consulate involves requesting a family reunification visa at a consulate outside of Mexico. You'll need to prove your family ties and demonstrate sufficient income to support your family in Mexico. However, the process of changing this visa within Mexico is significantly faster than applying for residency within the country. At least in Mérida, the processing time is approximately 3-5 business days, compared to several weeks or months if you apply from within Mexico.

As early as this time today, we are receiving these residences per family unit.
Do you have questions or are you about to apply and feel unsure? Write your questions here, and I will answer them. I specialize in family unity, among other things. I'll be happy to assist you.

Immigration processes typically require several visits to the INM (National Institute of Migration).

The first visit is scheduled by appointment (online or in person). During this visit, you submit the required documentation and complete the corresponding payments. If no additional documents or corrections are needed, your case can be approved at this stage.

On the second visit you have to wait in line, and those who arrive first are served first. By 8:00 a.m. it's already quite late, as you'll spend almost the entire day at the INM. On that day, they'll take your biometrics (photos and fingerprints), and you should leave with your Residency Card in hand. After so many processes, time and money, there are happy endings.

Meanwhile, get up early to wait in line, but don't worry, I'll do that for you 😅🫠🫩☕

𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒅. They are promised a job offer through which they will obtain a Residence Visa in Mexico. This is false. I’m not saying that this procedure doesn’t exist, but it is generally reserved for people with certain professional skills who, of course, are fluent in Spanish, and whose hiring company is willing to initiate a legal process with Migration and the Mexican Consulate to bring a foreigner to work and take responsibility for them. Such is the case for specialized workers for power plants, manufacturing plants, or production facilities, some hotels, bars, or restaurant chains, etc.

Of course, both parties are free to agree on whatever they deem best, but ideally, a first payment should be made at the end of an initial stage, not before. Be wary of anyone who, from a distance and without having done anything, is asking you for money. There are many people carrying out these scams now.
