How is the water of cenotes so blue?

Well, there are many factors!
Let's have a look at two of them!

1. 🗿Limestone minerals >>> the minerals coming from the stone of the walls of cenotes filter the water, removing any impurities that might cloud the water. That way, the sunlight can pe*****te deeper, enhancing the blue colour!

2. 💧Depth >>> deeper cenotes appear bluer because light has to travel through more water, and longer wavelengths (like red and orange) are absorbed more quickly than shorter wavelengths (like blue). As a result, blue light is scattered less and travels deeper, giving the water a blue appearance.

⚠️By the way, another big factor is the purity of the water. When it gets infiltrated by rubbish, sunscreen & other waste usually coming from humans, the cenotes lose their wonderfully blue colour. ⚠️

😍This is why the most beautiful cenotes are the ones hidden from mass tourism!😍
