Today Joar only used his home tied flies. Went 2 in a row on his black and purple toad. Then jumped 3 more almost to the boat on his black and purple gurgler. Caught a couple of Cichlids and had more eats that didn’t come tight in clear water on the lagoon.
The beaches were really tough with the recent wave of Sargasso, water that’s usually blue was dark red. We did get quite a few shots at big Bones in the village, sight fished at close range, hooking one beauty that cut free at about 30 yards first furious run.

Smile says it all. First Tarpon first time trying. Great learning skills from our new guest Joar from Sweden. Heartbreaking when he played a 12-15lb fish through 8 jumps and when it was about to come in it fell off for no reason. He got to tick that box though! Boat went 1-5. Beaches tough after with some of our favourite spots covered in Sargasso. A half chance at one big Permit. 5 spotted total.

Congratulations to new guests Cooper and Riley on your first Tarpon today, joining us on their honeymoon from Nebraska! Making it even better was that all Coopers Tarpon came on a fly he tied back in 2018 that hadn’t been used in anger yet! Boated 5 from 9 jumped with a few other hits. Well fished!

Lagoonssshut down around 10.30am so we went to the beach. Lots of Permit about providing great fun on floating Crabs and Of course the Mayan claw. Bonefish stopped the slam despite a few shots at the lighthouse.
