Cottar’s Safari Camp is one of the oldest safari operations in Africa, with a history dating back to 1904. It was founded by Chas Cottar, a legendary American hunter who moved to Kenya and began leading safaris for Hollywood stars, royalty, and adventurers during the golden age of safaris. The Cottar family has now run the business for five generations, evolving from traditional hunting safaris to conservation-focused, ultra-luxury photographic experiences.
Today, Cottar’s 1920s Camp sits on a private conservancy bordering the Masai Mara and Serengeti, channeling vintage safari glamour while being deeply embedded in sustainability, wildlife protection, and Maasai community partnerships. It’s old-school elegance with a future-minded ethos — and still very much a Cottar family affair.
