Did you know that over 560 years ago, an incredible piece of engineering protected ancient Tenochtitlan from flooding? 🌊

✨ Around 1453, the wise ruler Nezahualcóyotl built a 16 km-long d**e that separated the salty waters of Lake Texcoco from the freshwater lakes in the south. This genius solution:
✅ Prevented constant flooding in the Mexica capital
✅ Preserved fertile waters for farming in Xochimilco’s chinampas, which fed over 200,000 people
✅ Allowed the southern lakes to remain a green paradise, full of crops, migratory birds, and life 🦆🌽

What was once a challenge of nature became a triumph of ingenuity — a story that still inspires the city we live in today.
