The floating flower market on the Singel photographs beautifully. In person, it is mostly packaged tulip bulbs and refrigerator magnets. The stalls are lovely. The flowers are largely plastic. Locals have not shopped there in decades.

Albert Cuyp has been running daily in De Pijp since 1905. Fresh flowers cut that morning. Seasonal Dutch produce. A stroopwafel from the stall with the longest queue of locals. Cheese, cloth, and the general energy of a city that is doing its weekly shop rather than posing for one.

It stretches 260 metres. Nobody is stopping to photograph it. Which is roughly the point.

What is your version of this swap, in a city you love?

The story may be more legend than fact, but the sauce is real. Mole negro is built from over thirty ingredients including dried chillies, charred tortilla, dark chocolate, and cinnamon, ground together by hand until the flavours stop fighting each other and become something else entirely.

The Mercado Benito Juarez in Oaxaca still sells it fresh from the stalls in the central hall. This is the kind of dish that does not survive a tourist menu. You have to find the woman who still makes it by hand in the market. You know the kind of traveller who will.

Where does Oaxaca land on your list?

Ever wish you had a personal guide in your pocket?

By 1910, Broome was the largest pearling centre in the world, pulling workers from Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and China to one of the most isolated towns on earth. That history is written into every street, every cemetery and every pearl on Cable Beach. With MyGuideGuru in your ear, you actually hear it.

The best bit? The whole family does too.

If you want more than pretty views on your next trip, this is your sign. Link in bio.

Would you tackle Broome with the kids?

The Vatican is not a bad experience. It is an overwhelming, exhausting, crowd-controlled one that has almost nothing to do with Rome. Every hour you spend in that queue is an hour the city is not getting.

Testaccio is where Romans go. The market opens at 7am. There is pasta made that morning, seasonal produce, and a suppli with a specific cult following among people who have stopped optimising for the most famous version. The Circus Maximus is a ten-minute walk. The Aventine keyhole view of St Peter's, framed perfectly through a hedge, is free and almost always quiet.

If you are still optimising for the most famous version, that is fine. This post is for when you are ready to look past it.

Which would you choose: the Vatican queue or a Testaccio morning?

The intelligence operation that made D-Day possible had a code name: Operation Bodyguard. While Allied troops trained in England, British intelligence was running the most elaborate deception in military history, convincing Hi**er the real landing would come at Pas-de-Calais. Fake radio signals. Dummy tanks in Kent fields. A fictional army under General Patton. Hi**er held his best Panzer divisions in reserve for weeks after D-Day, waiting for an invasion that never came.

Omaha Beach is still there. Walk it early, before the coaches arrive, with 9,388 graves on the hill above. The German gun batteries at Longues-sur-Mer are intact, still pointing out to sea.

Did you know the deception angle, or did we get you?

MGG's history tours walk you through stories like this in person. Find yours at the link in bio.

One of Queensland's busiest fishing ports, and somehow most people just drive straight past it.

The name Mooloolaba is thought to come from the Aboriginal word for snapper and First Nations people have been fishing these waters for tens of thousands of years. So when you sit down to a plate of prawns, bugs and oysters here, you are eating at the end of a very long story.

This Culinary tour along the Sunshine Coast puts that story on the plate. All of it fresh, all of it local, all of it worth the trip.

Which stop would you hit first. The fish market or straight to the water?

On 30 May 1431, a 19-year-old girl was burned at the stake in a marketplace in Rouen. The spot is still marked on the ground today 🗓️

She had led an army at 17. Broken a seven-month siege in nine days. Been sold to her enemies, put on trial, and condemned - not for anything she did on a battlefield, but for wearing men's clothing.

The square looks ordinary now. Tourists walk through it every day without knowing what happened beneath their feet.

The place where one of the most remarkable stories in European history ended is two hours from Paris by train. Most people have never considered going.
