Help tips for your Spring Break travels…
SPRING BREAK IS HERE! and...we would like to share helpful and basic information. We have confirmed this info with city and state authorities.
DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT! ( or a copy of your birth certificate - you will need it to cross back into the U.S.)
The Lukeville Border and Sonoyta Aduana are open every day from 6AM-8PM ONLY. The next available Extended Lukeville Border hours for the 2023 Holidays is Friday, May 26th (Memorial Day) and Monday 29th. The border will OPEN at 6AM and CLOSE at 10PM on these 2 days only.
When crossing into Mexico you will be stopped by the Mexican military...they are now the ones in charge of the Mexico borders, they might ask you a few questions and can inspect your vehicle, please be patient you will be on your way shortly. Also - there might be a Federal or city checkpoint just as you come into town, this is to keep everyone safe, they might ask you where you are traveling to and the purpose of your trip and you will soon be on your way.
Don't get fined!! - WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT!!- DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING!!- WEAR YOUR HELMET - DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!
BEACH RULES: NO GLASS BOTTLES. - PICK UP YOUR TRASH - NO CAMPFIRES - PETS MUST BE ON A LEASH. NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES. NO FIREWORKS!! We advise you not to leave any valuable items in your car.
When traveling to/from PP we advise you to have plenty of drinking water/refreshments, and snacks as weekends will be super busy during Spring Break and Semana Santa and there will be long lines at the border...Check our events sections to keep up with what is happening in Peñasco.
Please remember to get Mexico car INSURANCE - Why Not Travel Store - Sanborn's Mexican Insurance or Alejandro Portugal - IT IS THE LAW!
Visit https://www.gob.mx/senasica/en for info on what is allowed to import into Mexico...and remember guns and ammo are illegal in Mexico.
If you take special medication please make sure you have your prescription/copy with you.

As of Jan. 15th - NO SMOKING/VAPING IN ANY PUBLIC SPACE IN MEXICO- only at your private house/patio. Please double-check with your rental or HOA.
FYI - The Coastal Hwy (Hwy to El Golfo) usually has lots of potholes and lots of sand on the road, we advise you to drive carefully and drive during the day.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO DRIVE "VERY SLOWLY THRU SONOYTA. SPEED LIMIT IS 40KM (25 MPH) and in some areas, it drops down to 20KM (12 MPH). Watch for the posted signs! and Please!! pay all fines at the POLICE STATION! (Remember, Sonoyta is another city, if you are fined in Sonoyta, you have to pay in Sonoyta) Speed limits in Peñasco for the main Blvd. are between 40 and 60 KM, please drive carefully, and do full stops at stop signs.
Exchange rate- Most businesses have an exchange rate varying from 17 to 20 pesos to a Dollar. You will find most of your groceries at our local markets and supermarkets (carry a reusable shopping bag)THANK YOU FOR VISITING PUERTO PEÑASCO, ENJOY YOUR STAY, HAVE FUN, AND ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!!
