Un solo corredor ha comenzado la vuelta 3 de 5 en Barkley.
No es espectáculo. Es permanencia.
En Sierra Alta, el territorio también está listo para cobrarla.
15 lugares. Sin concesiones. Sin atajos.
Pronto.
Damian Hall just began Loop 3 of the Barkley Marathons barefoot. Let that sink in.
This is a course with no trails, sawbriar that shreds clothing, steep mud-slicked descents, and terrain so rough it destroys shoes — and the man walked out of camp without any on 🦶. We don't know the full story yet, but at the Barkley, gear destruction is part of the deal. Whatever happened to his shoes on Loops 1 and 2, Hall clearly decided it wasn't going to stop him.
Hall is a past Barkley participant on his third attempt, and completing Loop 2 puts him in an elite group this year — only a handful of runners have made it this far. Loop 3 takes him clockwise for the first time this edition, with the 40-hour Fun Run cutoff ⏱️ now the next major milestone. Barefoot or not, if he makes it through three loops, that's roughly 60 miles of unmarked mountain wilderness navigated by compass in the dark and cold.
This is the kind of thing that only happens at the Barkley.
