El volcán Nevado del Ruiz o Mesa de Herveo, en época precolombina conocido como Kumanday (Cerro Blanco), Tabuchía (Candela o Fuego) y Tama (Padre Mayor o Grande),también denominado "del Ruiz" (como homenaje a Alfonso Ruíz de Sahajosa), miembro del cabildo y persona notable de Ibagué es uno de los volcanes activos más septentrionales del cinturón volcánico de los Andes, ubicado entre los departamentos de Tolima y Caldas (Colombia).
La avifauna de este ecosistema tsn fragil incluye especies emblemáticas como el cóndor de los Andes (Vultur gryphus), el colibrí de páramo (Oreotrochilus leucopleurus) y el mirlo de montaña (Turdus fuscater).
The volcano Nevado del Ruiz or Mesa de Herveo, in pre-Columbian times known as Kumanday (White Cerro), Tabuchía (Candela or Fuego) and Tama (Padre Mayor or Grande), also called "del Ruiz" (as a tribute to Alfonso Ruíz de Sahajosa), member of the cabildo and notable person of Ibagué is one of the most northern active volcanoes of the volcanic belt of the Andes, located between the departments of Tolima and Caldas (Colombia).
The avifauna of this fragile tsn ecosystem includes emblematic species such as the Andes condor (Vultur gryphus), the Buffy Helmetcrest
(Oxypogon stuebelii) the Great thrush (Turdus fuscater).
