Check out this massive Cozumel King Crab 🦀 (Maguimithrax spinosissimus), also known as the Caribbean King Crab!
Here are a few quick facts about this armored giant:
* Reef Guardians: They are essential herbivores. By feeding heavily on fast-growing macroalgae that can smother coral structures, they help keep the reef clean and healthy. 🪸
* Night Shift Rulers: While they can be spotted wedged deep under ledges during the day, they truly claim the reef at night when they venture out to forage. 🌙
* Impressive Scale: They are the largest crab species found in the Caribbean, with a claw span that can reach up to two feet wide. 📏
Observing these prehistoric-looking giants in their natural habitat, ensuring we leave their hiding spots completely undisturbed.
