For all my Canadian friends, please be advised that if you were born in the UK and are a Canadian citizen with a Canadian passport travelling to the UK after February 25, 2026, you are now required to have a valid UK passport not an Electronic Visa to enter.

This is a new ruling by the Oval Office, London.

Personally, being born in the UK but a Canadian citizen, I recently learned from the UK consulate that I still hold UK citizenship and I can no longer use my Canadian passport to enter the UK (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)

New Digital Entry System Is Now Live!

April 10, 2026, Europe has fully launched its new digital Entry/Exit System (EES) across the 29‑country Schengen Area.

This new system applies to all Canadian passport holders visiting Europe for short stays.

What Is the Entry/Exit System (EES)?

EES is a biometric border control system that replaces traditional passport stamping. Instead of receiving a stamp, your entry and exit information is recorded digitally and shared securely among participating European countries.

The goal is to modernize border controls, strengthen security, and better track short‑stay limits.

✅ What Canadian Travellers Can Expect
When travelling to Europe under EES, Canadians should know:

*No application or entry fee is required
*On your first entry, border officials will:
*Scan your passport
*Take a facial photo
*Capture fingerprints (children under 12 are exempt)

Applies to stays of up to 90 days in any 180‑day period.

Your data is stored securely and linked to your travel record so future entries should be faster once you’re registered.

Some airports may offer self‑service kiosks, followed by a quick check with a border officer.

Expect Longer Arrival Lines (Especially at First)
While EES is designed to streamline travel in the long run, its rollout has caused longer airport wait times at some European gateways —particularly for first‑time visitors.

Delays are mainly due to increased processing steps and staffing challenges at busy airports.
