Sometimes, the first thing you find is a bird call. The bird is still out of sight. You pause, listen and begin to look more closely.

That curiosity is at the heart of how we travel.

We are Ecobiosfera Expediciones. Based in Chiapas, we organise nature journeys across Chiapas, Oaxaca, Veracruz and Guatemala. We bring together birding, botany and natural history, with guides who help make sense of what we encounter along the way.

In recognition of Hummingbird Day, observed every September 7, we honor these tiny birds that accompany us on so many expeditions: pollinating flowers, hovering in midair, or pausing briefly on a perch.
Their presence reminds us that conserving hummingbirds also means protecting the flowers, forests, and natural corridors that sustain them.
Small in size, immense in motion.

En el marco del Día del Colibrí, celebrado cada 7 de septiembre, reconocemos a estas pequeñas aves que nos acompañan en tantas expediciones: polinizando flores, suspendidas en el aire o haciendo una breve pausa sobre alguna percha.
Su presencia nos recuerda que conservar a los colibríes también significa proteger las flores, los bosques y los corredores naturales que sostienen su vida.
Pequeños en tamaño, inmensos en movimiento.

Long journeys also require moments of rest.
Along the beaches, estuaries, and wetlands of the Mexican Pacific, shorebirds find the food and shelter they need to continue their migratory journeys.
These habitats are part of a natural network that transcends borders.
On World Shorebirds Day, we are reminded that every habitat, and every stop along the way, matters.

Amid the mist, green comes alive.
An emblem of Mesoamerica’s cloud forests, the resplendent quetzal finds refuge in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, from El Triunfo to Volcán Tacaná.
Seeing one is a visual delight and a reminder that protecting the quetzal also means preserving the forest that gives it life.

We’ve been quiet here, but never far from the forest.

Now, we’re ready to take you deeper into El Triunfo, a world of mist-covered trees, hanging gardens and extraordinary wildlife in the mountains of Chiapas.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share the landscapes, birds, people and stories that make this journey unlike any other.

This is where we begin.

Today, we celebrate those who observe, wait patiently, walk the trails, and turn every encounter with nature into a story worth preserving.
