Emilia lives in Mexico City but had never visited Xochimilco because she thought it was just for partying. She now has a new perspective and respect for Xochimilco.

Beautiful pictures and statement from our guests who recently came on our sunrise tour ~ thank you! …
“ This tour through the chinampas was one of the greatest moments of my life and I am extremely grateful to the hardworking crew that put it together. The tour began with a ride through the chinampas early in the morning. Our guide gave an introduction to the community and ecosystem of the Xochimilco area. We then arrived at a clearing and watched the sunrise over the mountains while our tour guide told us the legend of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl and how the mountains came to be.
After sunrise we were treated to a beautiful homemade breakfast on a chinampa. The family who owned the chinampa treated us with incredible kindness and hospitality. The food was fresh and delicious and you could absolutely tell how much care and effort was put into it.
After breakfast we visited another chinampa. This chinampa was run by one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met. He taught us all about the local ecosystem and how the early chinamperos were able to work with the ecosystem to create flourishing farms. He taught us all about sustainable farming and working with the environment to produce healthy food. The entire experience was a wonderful reminder of the importance of indigenous knowledge and how true progress must include the input of the people who know the land best.
Finally, we visited axolotls and learned about these rare and amazing animals. We were taught about their biology as well as their role in Xochimilco culture. We learned how they became endangered due to careless introduction of non-native species. In listening to our guide speak, it was clear the passion and love he held for the axolotls and the environment around us.
This tour was such an amazing reminder of the importance of our environment, the indigenous communities who originally learned to live within it, and our duty to work to preserve it. This experience has deeply impacted me and reignited a passion for the world around me and a sense of hope that, with enough hard work and dedication, we can improve the world we live in.
I highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves the environment, culture, history, or just learning in general. You simply could not ask for a more incredible experience” .

Beautiful you are nuestra gente. ❤️
Chinampa Temachtiani stands with our relatives being brutally attacked, kidnapped and murdered by ICE. Our hearts hurt and we say, CHINGA LA MIGRA!

The colonial border wall that stands between Indigenous relatives did not grow from Mother Earth like a tree that gives us clean air or a plant that makes our hearts happy with its beautiful flowers. We cannot cross this border like a lake, a river or a forest…we are not related to it. It is tall but it does not break our connection or our unity. The wall was created by cruel men, supported by the beams of greed, hate, fears of what was, and imagined fears of what the future will be without it. They don’t understand what we do. They are fools. We win.

“The sunrise tour in Lake Xochimilco is like no other. You feel such peace in the quietness. You are surrounded by mist that makes the experience feel like a dream. The gentle sound of the water as we row through the ancient canals is soothing like the voice of the ancestors telling us stories. When the sun rises between the ancient trees you feel the life of the ecosystem waking up all around you. It feels like going back in time when there was no city. It’s truly incredible and magical.”

We are nearly HALFWAY towards our goal to purchase a canoe for our elder, one of the last chinamperas of her generation, Doña Susana Sandoval. Can you help us reach our goal this giving Tuesday? 🙌🏽🛶

“Land Back, is an expansive vision that includes the liberation of all oppressed peoples, knowing that correcting course in our relationship with the land we stand on is the foundation of dismantling oppressive systems that obstruct justice for all.”

“Much of this collection is inspired by the power of love overcoming colonial borders. That I’ve witnessed that conflict between the love of our people and the violence of the systems that keep us apart my entire life. Now more then ever that contradiction is being visibilized, as the love and strength of our communities is all that stands between us and the growing violence of the state.” — Xiuhtezcatl ()

COMMUNITY MADE - Designed in collaboration with + + . 💚 [link in bio] In support of Chinampa Temachtiani (). 🖤

“Our community ties teach us that we are the land. This album, TONATIUH (my middle name meaning the sun in Nahuatl) inspired much of this collection through the way we rooted it in our homelands, made entirely with community in the image of our love for our people and where we come from. The stories of the album that live through this collection are also for the many of us who cannot easily return to our homelands, but refuse to forget where we are from. A vision of a free world for everyone requires an end to colonial borders, and the return of land to its traditional stewards. Chinga la migra, y cada frontera colonial desde Mexico a Palestina.” - Xiuhtezcatl

Calling all axolotl lovers! Scientists have predicted that axolotls will go extinct from their only habitat THIS year in Xochimilco Mexico. Axolotls are a vital part of our culture as Mexican and Indigenous people, it would be a great tragedy to lose them. We also recognize that many different people around the world love axolotls! How can we show our love for axolotls beyond admiration?

It is urgent that we take action to protect this one of a kind being.

We can contribute to their survival by:
- Sharing our axolotl posts and tagging us!
- Spreading awareness with your own reels, art, etc
- Making efforts to restore vital axolotl habitat (canals of Lake Xochimilco)
- Uplift and donate to local efforts that are working to preserve chinampas and protected axolotls
- Tag people, groups or companies who love axolotls! Such as

At Chinampa Temachtiani, we are working in direct relation with the land and with our community members to make a lasting change. With your support and donations we have completed the first phase of an axolotl conservatory that mimics their native habitat, while working on the restoration of nearby canals where they will one day be reintroduced. We love axolotls and want them to thrive in their native home - Lake Xochimilco!

Join our movement to by raising awareness, volunteering or donating to on the ground efforts.
