One of the most elegant mammals of the Maya rainforest. Its ears can move independently to detect sounds from different directions. It feeds mainly on tender leaves, shoots, and fruits.

An adult can weigh 35 to 70 kg, live 6 to 12 years in the wild, and usually has one fawn per year.

Every year, before the rainy season begins, the ocellated turkey starts its reproduction dance.

The males try to look bigger, stronger, and more attractive by using their bright metallic feathers… watching them free in Calakmul is something very difficult to forget. 🌎🦚
