Getting Around Taipei is easy as ABC

EasyCard: I highly recommend buying an EasyCard at any MRT station or convenience store (like 7-Eleven or FamilyMart). It's a rechargeable card that you can tap to pay for the MRT, buses, and even some taxis and convenience store purchases. It saves you from constantly buying single-trip tokens. You can top it up with cash at any station or store.
Day 1: Arrival and Taipei City Exploration
Arrival & Hotel Check-in:
From Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), take the Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station. It’s a fast, direct, and affordable option.
From Taipei Main Station, you can either take a short taxi ride or use the Taipei MRT to your hotel.
Hotel Suggestions:
The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei: Located near the Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station (Blue and Brown lines), giving you great access to the city's main attractions.
amba Taipei Ximending: This hotel is in the heart of Ximending and is a 5-minute walk from the Ximen MRT Station (Blue and Green lines).
Lunch:
Yunus Halal Restaurant: Take the MRT to Nanjing Sanmin Station (Green Line). It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the station.
Afternoon Activities:
Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall: Take the MRT to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station (Red or Green lines). The memorial is right outside the station.
Taipei Grand Mosque: Take the MRT to Daan Park Station (Red Line). The mosque is a short, approximately 10-minute walk from the station.
Evening & Dinner:
Ximending: Take the MRT to Ximen Station (Green or Blue lines). The district is right at the station exit.
Kunming Islamic Restaurant: This is located near the Ximending area. From Ximen MRT Station, it's a short taxi ride or a 10-15 minute walk. The address is No. 21, Yanping S. Rd., Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City. It's very close to the Halal Chinese Beef Noodle Restaurant.
Day 2: From Taipei to the Mountains of Alishan
Morning Travel:
Take the Taipei MRT to Taipei Main Station.
Board the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (HSR) from Taipei Main Station to Chiayi Station. The HSR is the fastest option. It's a direct, smooth ride that takes around 90 minutes.
HSR Tickets: You can buy tickets online in advance or at the station. Booking in advance is recommended, especially for popular times.
From Chiayi HSR Station, head to Exit 2, Platform 7 to catch the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Route A (Bus 7329). This bus goes directly up to Alishan. The bus ride is approximately 2.5 hours.
Lunch in Alishan:
Since there are limited Halal options, pack some Halal-certified snacks from a 7-Eleven or FamilyMart in Taipei. You can find pre-packaged foods and drinks.
Alternatively, most restaurants will have vegetarian options. Just ask for no meat and no garlic/onion if you prefer, as this is a common request in Taiwan.
Alishan Exploration:
Once you arrive at the Alishan Bus Station, your hotel (like Alishan Gou Hotel or Alishan House) will be within walking distance inside the park.
Day 3: Alishan Sunrise and Back to Taipei
Sunrise Train:
The famous sunrise is best seen via the Alishan Forest Railway's Zhushan Line.
Walk from your hotel to the Alishan Station. The train schedule is posted at the station a day in advance, as it changes based on sunrise time.
Purchase your ticket at the station for the round-trip journey to Zhushan Station. The ride is about 30 minutes. Be prepared for a very early wake-up call!
Return to Taipei:
Take the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Route A (Bus 7329) from the Alishan Bus Station back to Chiayi HSR Station.
From Chiayi HSR Station, take the HSR back to Taipei Main Station.
Take the MRT from Taipei Main Station to your hotel.
Dinner:
Taj Indian Restaurant: Take the MRT to Zhongxiao Dunhua Station (Blue Line). The restaurant is a short walk from the station.
Day 4: Last-minute Sightseeing and Departure
Morning:
Taipei 101: Take the MRT to Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station (Red Line). The skyscraper is right at the station.
National Palace Museum: Take the MRT to Shilin Station (Red Line). From there, you'll need to take a short bus ride or taxi to the museum.
Souvenirs & Departure:
You can find plenty of souvenir shops near MRT stations or at the Taoyuan Airport.
Take the Airport MRT from Taipei Main Station back to Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) for your flight home.
