Thank you for your service, Bobbi girl!
Before the first guest arrived and before the first cabin was built, Bobbi was here. She kept our retreat safe from intruders like snakes, monitor lizards, and scary humans. After many years of loyal service, Bobbi will be retiring to sunny California!
While Malaysian street dogs are often called "pariah dogs" or "anjing kampung," we prefer a more accurate name: The Royal Malaysian Mongrel. Malaysian street dogs are a unique landrace that has adapted over generations to life alongside humans.
Unlike selectively bred domestic dogs, the Royal Malaysian Mongrel have evolved naturally, leading to their exceptional intelligence and resilience. Many are independent thinkers yet deeply affectionate once they trust their humans.
While Bobbi will now spend her sunset days relaxing, many other Royal Malaysian Mongrels are not so lucky. Increasing urbanization, stricter stray culling policies, and cruelty toward street animals have led to heartbreaking suffering. Poisoning, mass culls, and above all, neglect have become common.
But there is hope. More people are advocating for humane street dog management and fostering a culture of compassion. Every street dog, like Bobbi, deserves a chance—not just to survive, but to be loved.
So if you have the privilege of knowing a Royal Malaysian Mongrel, give them a big hug and lots of love!
