Proof that Perlis hits way harder than people give it credit for! 🌿🔥

We spent a few days exploring Perlis — from paddy field bird-spotting🐦🔭 by day to hunting for weird creatures👾 at night (and almost getting sprayed by a bombardier beetle 💀💀💀).

When the sun goes down, nature stays alive. 🌙✨

Our night walk introduced us to a completely different side of the forest. With flashlights in hand, we observed nocturnal wildlife, documented our findings, and discovered that every little creature plays an important role in the ecosystem.
Sometimes, the best adventures happen after dark. 🌿💚

The more we looked, the more we discovered. 🐦🌾

From paddy fields to hidden corners of nature, we slowed down, observed, and uncovered the incredible biodiversity around us. Sometimes, all it takes is a little patience to notice the beauty that has been there all along.
Nature has a way of rewarding those who choose to slow down and observe. 🌿

We kicked off our Southern Loop adventure by learning about the marine mammals of Perlis with Perlis Nature Xplorer. Although rough sea conditions meant we had to replace the planned coastal marine mammal watching experience at Pantai Berangan, it was still a fascinating introduction to the marine life found along Perlis’ coastline. The next time you’re driving by, keep an eye on the water—you might just spot an occasional fin breaking the surface. 🌊

Next, we explored the waterways with a kayaking experience through the mangrove tunnel led by KAYAK Nakawan Perlis . Nakawan Kayak has been an advocate for sustainable outdoor recreation in Perlis, encouraging people to connect with nature through low-impact activities like kayaking 🚣‍♀️

One of the highlights of the programme was the birdwatching experience with Shaiful Azhar Abu Bakar from NEST - Nature Educational Society Passionate about inspiring the younger generation, he generously shared his knowledge and love for birds, reminding us that every bird—and every person—counts. Tak kenal maka tak cinta.

We began at Tasik Melati Recreational Park, where we recorded 34 bird species, ranging from garden birds to forest and waterbirds.

Our second stop was the Hutan Paya Laut Interpretation Boardwalk, where the shaded mangrove canopy meets the open seaward landscape, offering an immersive birding experience across two ecosystems in one place.

We took a cultural walk through Kampung Warna-Warni, where the Nakawan Range disappears beneath the sea. Home to 10 fishing villages, Kampung Warna-Warni showcases a vibrant coastal culture and a way of life deeply connected to the sea. If you ever visit, we highly recommend joining a guided ride-around village tour with the locals!
