Journey to Nanga Sumpa Lodge, Sarawak: A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Borneo.
Last week, we embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Nanga Sumpa Lodge, tucked deep in the heart of Sarawak, Borneo. This journey took me off the beaten and unforgettable experiences.
Getting to Nanga Sumpa was a trip in itself. From the bustling city of Kuching, we then took a 5-hour drive through the winding roads of rural Sarawak. The journey was bumpy at times, but the scenery made it all worth it — lush rainforests, cascading rivers, and traditional villages dotted the landscape. We finally arrived at the small town, where we boarded a longboat for a scenic 2-hour ride upriver to the lodge.
Of course, Nanga Sumpa isn’t just about cultural experiences — it’s also a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers. We went on guided treks into the rainforest, where we spotted Orangutan nests, and a variety of bird species. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about the local customs of the Ibans.
One of my favorite activities was a river safari. The longboat ride along the Batang Ai River was nothing short of magical. The picnic lunch by the river was incredible — I’ve never felt so far from home, yet at the same time, so completely at home.
Nanga Sumpa Lodge is a place where time seems to slow down. Without the distractions of modern life, I was able to fully immerse myself in the beauty of nature. I left with not just memories of stunning landscapes and wildlife, but a deeper appreciation for the traditions and way of life that have been passed down through generations.
If you’re looking for an authentic, off-the-grid experience that combines adventure, culture, and serenity, Nanga Sumpa Lodge is a must-visit. It’s a hidden gem that reminds us of the importance of preserving both nature and indigenous heritage in our rapidly changing world. If you want to experience this trip, your can find it here - TMPB
