Responsible ecotourism can play a part in keeping wild spaces protected, helping conserve the forests and corridors elephants need to move freely between feeding, resting and breeding grounds.

As they move through the forest, Bornean pygmy elephants play an important part in shaping their environment, creating pathways, and dispersing seeds as well as influencing the vegetation around them. Their presence is a reminder that every species has a role in the intricate story of the rainforest.

On World Elephant Day, let’s remember that protecting elephants also means protecting the forests, waterways and wild spaces that sustain them.

The rainforest is full of quiet wonders, and some of them glide through the trees.

Meet the Colugo, one of Borneo’s fascinating Tiny 10, a group of smaller and often overlooked creatures that play an important role in the rainforest ecosystem.

Often called the “flying lemur,” the Colugo doesn’t actually fly. Instead, its unique skin membrane allows it to glide effortlessly from tree to tree, moving through the canopy in search of food and helping disperse seeds along the way.

Spotting one in the wild is a reminder that Borneo’s biodiversity isn’t only found in its biggest and most famous animals. Sometimes, the smallest creatures have an important part to play in keeping the forest alive.

The Blue-banded Pitta spends much of its time on the forest floor, quietly searching through fallen leaves for insects. Its beautiful blue wing bands make it a true rainforest treasure but spotting one is a rare and magical moment.
