Malaysia in History 🇲🇾

In 1824 the British and the Dutch signed a treaty known as the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. The treaty , among other things, legally transfered Malacca to British administration. Malacca was under ruled by British administration until Malaya had their Independence Day in 1957.

Ubudiah Mosque, Perak Malaysia

The Masjid Diraja Ubudiah (Ubudiah mosque) sitting on top of Chandan hill in Kuala Kangsar is said to be one of the country’s most beautiful mosques. The mosque was erected under the orders of Sultan Idris Murshidul Adzam Shah I, as his way of giving thanks to The Almighty when he recovered from an illness. The Sultan laid the foundation stone for the mosque in September 1913, but due to an unfortunate event where imported marble stones and building materials meant for the mosque were destroyed in a fight between the Sultan’s elephants and Raja Chulan’s elephant, it was only completed in 1917.

The mosque’s magnificent Indo-Saracenic architecture is octagonal in shape, with a diameter of 30 feet. Its most striking feature is its exquisite golden domes, which are quite dazzling when the sun is high above the head. Elaborate arches adorn its porticoes and verandah, while white, black and red marble imported from Italy adorn its interior.

Masjid Diraja Ubudiah was once the State Mosque before Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II was built. The mosque is now administered by the Ubudiah Mosque Administration Committee. A royal mausoleum sits next to the mosque.
