On 29 May 2026, MATTA successfully conducted the second TRUST Programme User Training Session for the MATTA Johor Chapter, attended by close to 30 members in a half-day session.

The programme was conducted and coordinated by MATTA President Nigel Wong, MATTA Johor Chapter Chairman Kathryn Lee, Vice President of Land & Transportation Subramanian Kandasamy, and MATTA Kedah Chapter Chairman Subramaniam Punnusamy, featuring a live demonstration of the report submission process and an interactive Q&A session with members.

The session emphasised the importance of reporting illegal tour operators and tourism-related illegal activities through the TRUST platform, reinforcing MATTA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening industry accountability, protecting consumers, and safeguarding the interests of its members.

On 21 May 2026, MATTA Vice President of Air Transportation, Dr Fazil Khan Abdul Kadir, was invited to participate in a Round Table Discussion organised by the Terengganu Strategic and Integrity Institute (TSIS), themed “Middle East Crisis 2026: Intervention Strategy & National Preparedness”.

The session was chaired by YAB Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Menteri Besar Terengganu, and moderated by YB Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah.

MATTA shared perspectives from the travel agency sector, focusing on how developments in the Middle East are affecting outbound travel demand, airline connectivity, and traveller sentiment. The discussion also addressed operational readiness within the industry, particularly in managing uncertainty and maintaining stability across the tourism value chain.

On 20 May 2026, MATTA welcomed a courtesy visit from a delegation led by Li Huaiqiang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, and representatives from Liyue Media Group at MATTA Headquarters.

MATTA President Nigel Wong, Hon Sec Gen Chong Yu Ken, Vice President of Research & Technology Mohd Hizzat Mohd Shah, and EXCO North Asia Jimmy Thoo Choy attended the meeting.

Discussions centred on strengthening tourism cooperation between Malaysia and Sichuan Province, particularly in promoting cultural tourism and identifying areas for future collaboration. Both sides also exchanged views on potential participation in upcoming initiatives, including the Sichuan Culture and Tourism Promotion Seminar in Kuala Lumpur, which aims to showcase the province’s diverse tourism offerings and deepen engagement with the Malaysian market.

Taking place on 29–30 July 2026 at Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC), Perak, the 2nd edition of MATTA Connect is expected to gather approximately 300 buyers and 200 sellers, creating a focused space for meaningful business networking, collaborations, and market expansion opportunities.

On 19 May 2026, the Taiwan Tourism Administration hosted the 2026 Taiwan Tourism Workshop – Kuala Lumpur (Muslim Session) at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, bringing together industry players for a focused engagement on strengthening tourism ties between Taiwan and Malaysia.

President Nigel Wong represented MATTA at the session, which featured B2B networking, destination presentations, and opportunities for industry stakeholders to explore potential collaborations.

The programme commenced with welcome remarks by Joseph Cheng, Director of the International Affairs Division of the Taiwan Tourism Administration, followed by presentations highlighting Taiwan’s offerings, particularly for Muslim-friendly travel, and concluded with a lucky draw session.

On 15 May 2026, MATTA President Nigel Wong welcomed Tan Mei Phing, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), and her team to MATTA Headquarters for a strategic planning meeting to explore areas of collaboration and strengthen industry engagement.

The discussion centred on identifying opportunities to further enhance Malaysia’s business events and tourism landscape through closer coordination between industry stakeholders and national tourism agencies. Among the areas explored were industry development initiatives, market growth opportunities, and collaborative efforts that can strengthen Malaysia’s position as a competitive destination for both business events and leisure travel.
