1️⃣ The Perhentian Islands are a protected marine park with a tranquil atmosphere, known for their lack of roads, clear turquoise waters, and abundant marine life. The name "Perhentian" means "stopping point" in Malay, as the islands were historically a waypoint for traders

2️⃣ Two main islands: The archipelago consists of two main islands: the larger and more tranquil Pulau Perhentian Besar, and the smaller, more lively Pulau Perhentian Kecil, which is popular with backpackers.

3️⃣ A historical stopping point: Before becoming a tourist destination, the islands served as a layover for fishermen and traders traveling between Siam (Thailand) and Terengganu

4️⃣ Refuge for "boat people": During the 1970s, the islands also served as a landing point for Vietnamese refugees, or "boat people"
