Chinatown Petaling Street has been drawn as a heritage site in the KL Plan 2020. Sadly, Petaling street land owners have received the sudden and shocking news from the Land Office that part of Chinatown Petaling Street will be teared down to make way for the MRT project. Many generations have continued the business and build Chinatown Petalin

g Street to what it is today. Together, the Chinese community here have contributed much to the country’s economy with their thriving business and supported the tourism industry in Malaysia. It is hard to believe that the government would even think of destroying part of Chinatown Petaling Street when it should be working on preserving the history and culture behind it. Why would the prime minister and politicians give recognition to Petaling Street and visit it during Chinese New Year and make their rounds for their campaigns if this place is less important? Tearing down Chinatown is liken to tearing into the hearts of the Chinese community. This place is close to our hearts and is priceless. No amount of compensation from the government is good enough for us. Please support us by commenting on this page. Chinatown Petaling Street should be preserved as the country’s heritage.
