A more reliable tourism transport system starts with understanding what operators actually face on the ground. During the Opening Ceremony of the MATTA Fair September 2026, MATTA and MARA Liner Sdn Bhd (MARALINER) formalised a three-year collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pilot practical initiatives aimed at improving the reliability of tourism ground transport.
The collaboration will focus on three key areas: fleet readiness, driver competency, and digital fleet management, addressing day-to-day challenges that can affect tourism operators, from vehicle reliability and preventive maintenance to driver availability and operational visibility.
The partnership will begin with targeted pilot initiatives involving participating MATTA members, with results measured against practical outcomes such as vehicle availability, avoidable downtime, maintenance responsiveness, driver competency and fleet visibility.
MATTA President Nigel Wong and Wan Md Hazlin Agyl Wan Hassan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MARALINER signed the agreement, witnessed by Yahaya Sani, Group Chief Executive Officer of MARA Corporation, and MATTA Deputy President, Mohd Hizzat Mohd Shah.
The collaboration is already taking shape at MATTA Fair, where MARALINER is providing 12 shuttle buses and one medic van, including support for visitors requiring accessible transport assistance.
For the tourism industry, getting travellers to their destination safely and reliably is just as important as everything that happens once they arrive. This partnership tackles that part of the journey with solutions that can be tested, measured, and, where they work, scaled.
