Dawn at Floating vegetables market in Dal Lake

The daily life begins at first light in Dal Lake when the local sellers gather in their shikaras, selling or bartering their vegitables/flowers. Most of the produce sold here is grown in floating gardens on the Dal Lake. The rich ecosystem of this wetland produces plenty of tomatoes, cucumbers, water chestnuts and of course, the famous nadru (lotus stem, a delicacy in the Kashmir Valley). This market last for an hour as far I witnessed till the sun come out from mountains, may be for the freshness of the vegitables and flowers. Soon after which everyone disappears back to their village as if the market never existed.
It’s an adventure on its own, to catch these exclusive boatmen in action.
