Nice urban lake peacock bass. Fully bulked up and getting ready for the spawning season. These fish hit extra hard when they’re in this condition.

Belida (knife fish) shows up strong in the dry heat. Urban lake, low water, calm surface. They hold over muddy bottom, often schooling—and you’ll see them rise, flashing almost the whole body.
When you spot that boiling, put your cast right into it. Let the lure sink all the way to bottom, then work it back super slow through their zone. First tap you feel—commit. Set the hook.

Metal vibe on a hot, brutal day — this is where it shines. When the sun is high and there’s zero wind, peacock bass tend to sit deeper and get a bit lazy. They’re not chasing hard, but they’ll still react. That’s where a metal vibe comes in. Let it sink to the strike zone, then work it with short lifts and controlled drops. Most hits come on the fall — that subtle vibration is enough to trigger them. Don’t overwork it. Just keep it in the zone, slow and steady. Hot day, tough bite… metal vibe gets it done. A quiet lake somewhere in Ipoh. Cloudy sky, no wind at all but still hot enough to make you sweat just standing there. From the first few casts, you already know today’s gonna be busy. Peacock bass smashing lures like they own the place, Mayan cichlid keep things messy in between, and even a few river catfish decided to show up. No long pauses, no overthinking, just cast, get hit, repeat. Some days you go out there to figure things out. Some days the fish just don’t give you a break.

A hot, windless day on our Kuala Lumpur urban lake, the kind of condition where most people would expect it to be tough. But once we figured out the pattern, it turned into a proper good day on the water.

Fish were holding low and not really chasing, so we slowed everything down. Carolina rig to cover ground, then follow up with a drop shot to keep the bait right in the strike zone. Nothing fancy, just patience, small movements, and letting the lure do its job.

Hit after hit, steady action throughout the session. No rush, no chaos just consistent bites and good times on light tackle.

That’s urban fishing here. Even on the hottest, stillest days, if you dial it in, the lake will give you something back.
