Facilities
Many people refer Bilit Adventure Lodge as Bilit Lodge probably because it was the first lodge at Bilit Village. It was not easy during those times as there were no sealed roads, no electricity and all construction materials need to be transported across the mighty Kinabatangan River before reaching its location. Now, Bilit Adventure Lodge has 8 fanned rooms and 16 Air Conditioned Rooms. Please do understand that we are in the jungle and thus, a 5-star resort with all sorts of facilities is not to be anticipated. However, you can enjoy 5 star wildlife viewing experience. We are trying to encourage people to be in one with nature and communicate more with each other instead of communicating with your Iphone, Tablets etc all the time. So forget about going online and we do not even have a TV in the room and we do not have WI FI at the lodge. Are you able to survive without all these gadgets and networking facilities for a day or two? You will appreciate human activity more after you leave our lodge. Do not worry. Mobile phone still works even though you are in the jungle. Wildlife/Creatures
As we are in the jungle, we are surrounded by wildlife. Some are even crawling around and inside the room. It is not a surprise to see ants, geckos, spiders, moth and insects in your room. Generally they are harmless but if you are uncomfortable, please let us know and we will remove them from your room. Please be aware that there are different season of creatures at Kinabatangan. Quite annoying but this is the jungle and we are in their territory. Usually cicada season will be around March to April and during this time, it can be quiet noisy. From May to June it will be that of the green beetles and finally the fly season is around July to August. During the fly season which is the same as the palm oil fruiting season, there can be quite a lot of them but please note that this is not due to the uncleanliness of the lodge and the areas surrounding it. Besides these seasonal creatures, you will have many chances to spot wildlife around the lodge. By all means, shoot them. Yes, shoot them but with your cameras! Do not feed and provoke them. Just leave them as they are. Orang Utan, Squirrels, Birds, Macaques (wild monkey) are common in the area. Ecotourism
Bilit Adventure Lodge believes and practises eco tourism. So when you stay with us, try to switch off all lights, fans and air conditioning units when you are not in the room. All our lightings are very minimal as we do not want to disturb the wildlife living in the area. So, please do understand that we are in a sensitive area and do not think of us in a way that we want to save electricity bills!! You will see some lodges that switch on their lights like nobody’s business! We are proud to say that about 90% of our staff is from the village and most of them have never left us since because they are very happy working together as a family. We have the lowest staff turnover rate in Bilit Village. One of the reasons is because we give them the opportunity to earn extra income. Right at the moment you step into Bilit Adventure Lodge, you know that you are helping the community because every single cent or money that you spend will go to them. For instance, buying drinks and snacks, renting gum boots, leech socks and binoculars, tree planting and doing night walk and all other little things do help them in a way or another. Activities
Besides river cruising and jungle trekking, you must do the night walk during your stay with us. We are proud to say that we have the best night walk in the area because the trails are part of our own land and we do not allow trespassers. We have preserved them well and the wildlife are happy living here. The highlight is a nocturnal primate called the Western Tarsier. There is a very high chance that you will be able to see it but we cannot guarantee as they are wild. It is a strange animal because it is like a 4-in-1 animal with the eyes like an owl, the ears like a bat, the hands/legs like a frog and the tail like a rat. Come and spot it for yourself. We would say that when it comes to weighing between the accommodation standard, meals qualities, memorable activities, excellent service and helping the community versus your hard earned money, Bilit Adventure Lodge is indeed the best you can find in Kinabatangan River.
