Let’s be honest, the words Instructor Examination sound intense.

But the IE is not designed to surprise you or catch you out. Over two days, a PADI Examiner checks the same areas you have already worked on throughout your IDC: dive theory, classroom teaching, confined-water and open-water teaching, and rescue skills.

At Scuba Ju**ie Sipadan, candidates can keep practising their in-water skills on our house reef with a buddy, using the same platform where the IE takes place. With Thien’s 20 years of teaching experience guiding your preparation, you do not arrive hoping for the best. You arrive knowing the process and ready to show what you can do.

The nerves may still turn up. Plot twist: so does your preparation.

Sipadan might get most of the attention, but it’s only part of the story. 💙

Around Mabul and Kapalai, slow down and start looking for the small stuff — frogfish, nudibranchs, tiny crustaceans and all the weird little critters macro lovers come here for.

Then there’s Sipadan for the sharks, turtles and huge schools of fish, and Si Amil for encounters with devil rays.

Big stuff. Tiny stuff. Different islands. Very different dives.

That’s what makes diving around here so much fun.

Think becoming a PADI Instructor is the finish line? Think again.

After years of teaching, gaining experience, and helping students become confident divers, many instructors reach the same point: what comes next?

The PADI IDC Staff Instructor programme is the next step for instructors who want to move beyond teaching recreational divers and start mentoring future dive professionals. You will learn how to support instructor candidates, evaluate presentations, provide constructive feedback, and work alongside a Course Director during a live IDC.

Our Staff Instructor course runs alongside the IDC in Mabul, giving you the chance to gain practical experience while helping the next generation of PADI Instructors develop their skills.
