Some dive trips make you choose a category. Big animals or macro. Walls or sandy slopes. Wide-angle lens or macro lens.

Here, the decision may only last until the next dive.

Sipadan can fill your entire field of vision with schooling fish, reef sharks and walls disappearing beneath you. Around Mabul and Kapalai, the pace changes. The group slows down, the search becomes more careful and suddenly everyone is gathered around a frogfish that could comfortably sit on a teaspoon.

As daylight disappears, torches come out and the night shift begins. Familiar dive sites suddenly feel brand new, with nocturnal creatures emerging from their hiding places and unexpected behaviours happening in every beam of light.

And all of this is just a short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu.

The beauty of staying on Mabul is not only being close to Sipadan. It is waking up with completely different kinds of diving within reach.

Sipadan asks you to look out into the blue. Mabul and Kapalai reward the divers who slow down and search carefully. Si Amil refuses to choose a category, mixing rare macro life with the possibility of rays appearing offshore.

That variety changes the whole trip. One dive can make you feel very small beside a wall or a school of fish. The next can have the entire group celebrating because someone found a creature smaller than a fingernail.

Are you a Divemaster thinking about becoming an instructor, but looking for an IDC that prepares you for more than simply passing the exam?

Our next PADI Instructor Development Course takes place this November at Scuba Ju**ie Mabul, Sabah, Malaysia.

Candidates train inside an active dive operation, with unlimited buddy practice available on our house reef and the same training platform used during the Instructor Examination. The programme also includes a full two-day mock IE and two Specialty Instructor ratings.

You will learn with Course Director Thien, who brings 23 years of teaching experience, alongside a supporting team of highly qualified IDC Staff Instructors.

We keep the group to a maximum of eight candidates, allowing plenty of time for individual feedback, questions and extra practice.

Course dates:

📍 Latest arrival on Mabul: 15 November
📚 11-day IDC programme: 16–26 November
🎓 PADI Instructor Examination: 27–28 November

A Divemaster course is not four weeks of fun diving with a little homework added on the side.

Some mornings begin with tanks and equipment. Others begin with a workshop, a skill circuit or a briefing you have practised repeatedly in your head. You learn to watch the whole group instead of only yourself, help instructors during courses and understand why the small decisions made before a dive matter underwater.

There is plenty of diving, but the biggest change is not in your logbook. It is in the way you start thinking and behaving as a dive professional.

The first breath underwater feels strange for almost everyone.

You hear the bubbles. You realise you cannot talk. Your brain briefly wonders why everyone else looks so calm.

Then you breathe again. You start looking around. The strange feeling becomes curiosity, and suddenly the underwater world does not feel quite so far away anymore.

Before Mabul became home, before the resorts and the different locations, there was one small dive centre in Semporna.

Scuba Ju**ie started in 2004 with a love for the ocean and a simple idea: great diving should feel welcoming.

More than two decades later, the family has grown, conservation has become part of our everyday work, and thousands of divers have written their own chapter of the story.

But the feeling that started it all is still here.

Most guests meet their guide at the jetty, but the dive day started long before that moment.

Someone checked the tanks. Someone prepared the boat, organised the equipment, planned the groups and made sure breakfast was ready before the first divers appeared. While we are underwater, another part of the team is already preparing lunch, rooms, snacks and everything needed for the rest of the day.

Great diving may be what brings people to Mabul. The people quietly taking care of the details are what make the experience feel easy.

This is the team behind the dive day. And yes, they deserve to be in the pictures too.
